Renew SSL Certificates

Renewing SSL certificates is what we do, it's literally in our name

An expired SSL certificate is as good as having an SSL certificate not installed at all!

Just because you have purchased an SSL certificate doesn't mean you can now forget about it altogether. All SSL certificates come hard-coded with an expiration date. If you have taken a trial version, that expiration will probably be somewhere between 30 to 90 days. However, even paid SSL certificates come with expiration dates of up to 3 years. As such, it's important to renew SSL certificate regularly if you want to keep your website secure.

If you do not renew SSL certificate in time, Google will remove the padlock from the browser and flash the ‘Not Secure’ message, thus potentially turning users away.

Domain Validation

Domain Validated SSL Certificates offer basic, no-frills encryption with minimal authentication. They're perfect for personal websites, blogs or other kinds of sites that don't collect any personal information from their users–remember, in this day and age every site should have encryption. DV SSL Certificates are easily obtained – simply prove that you own the registered domain – and can be issued within minutes, making them a quick, cost-effective security solution for any non-e-commerce site. Important! To ensure the most up-to-date security that meets the latest CA/B Forum standards, you'll need to regenerate (at no cost) after 2 years.

In order to offer you the lowest cost per year, we've introduced 3 & 4 year certificate bundles. For security reasons, your certificate will initially be issued with 2 year validity. Once your initial certificate enters the renewal phase (3 months prior to the 2-year deadline) your order will be extended. To comply with the CA/B Forum guidelines, you'll need to revalidate your domain and reissue the updated certificate. Have questions? Our customer experience team is available 24/7 to assist you with this process. The 30 day money back guarantee applies to the original purchase date.

Questions we get asked all the time about renewing SSL

When to Renew Security Certificate?

Users start getting emails regarding renewal of security certificate about 60 days before the expiration date. As such, technically, you can renew the security certificate any time before the expiration date.

However, you can save a lot of money if you use Comodo’s multi-year renewal option. If you renew early, you get additional validity because we add the remaining days from your previous certificate to your new certificate.
